Woodrush draws audiences into a refreshing live music experience through their infectious melodies and entertaining performance. In an industry where original sound is becoming harder to find, Woodrush delivers a generous blend of musical genres and variety to any entertainment line-up.
Woodrush founders, Kelly Shirey (lead vocals, guitar) and Jim Castaneda (vocals, vocal percussion, bass), have been performing together for over a decade, recently adding multi-instrumentalist, Leland Hirschman.
Their Alternative-Americana sound incorporates aspects of rock, pop, folk, funk, and jazz with classic vocal harmonies, reminiscent of bands such as Barenaked Ladies, Counting Crows and Toad the Wet Sprocket. Compelling melodies, vocal percussion and well-crafted songs sets Woodrush apart from the average band.
In addition to their substantial selection of original songs, Woodrush also plays a diverse array of crowd-pleasing covers.
Their many years of experience includes performances at festivals, bars, coffee houses, restaurants, clubs, casinos, wineries, breweries, corporate events and weddings.
It is evident in every performance that these three musicians have a true passion for what they do.

What really struck me with this duo from Seattle was how completely blended their sound is. I was impressed with how Kelly Shirey on guitar and vocals, and Jim Castaneda on bass and vocals, complimented each other. Its refreshing to hear musicians, especially a duo, play solely for the song and not for themselves. Their music reaches more than your ears. I instantly had to know more.
This band is very talented. Nice voices, good sense of song structure, an intelligent approach to lyric writing ... a gritty, alternative edge to the overall sound. In addition - good musicianship, vocals, and arrangement. Lots of clever imagery in the lyrics.

Obvious Enthusiasm
This is the second time I've heard Woodrush and once again I'm impressed with the obvious enthusiasm Jim and Kelly approach their music.
